Carrot supplies, especially jumbo sizes, will be limited in California’s Kern County (Bakersfield) growing district for the next six to eight weeks due an abnormally long period of 100+ degree weather (68 days versus the 33 day average). The extreme heat has stunted growth and reduced size.
- Orders for Markon First Crop Jumbo Carrots are being filled
- Production will transition to Bakersfield, California over the next three weeks
- Expect higher prices for carrots until size and supplies increase in mid-December
- Packer label jumbo carrots are available in South Texas (from Mexico)
- Supplies are sufficient
- Prices are lower
