For the beer batter
  1. Whisk the egg in a medium bowl; gently stir in the beer, salt and pepper. Stir in the flour with a fork. Don’t overmix; some lumps will remain. Let the batter stand for 10 minutes.
For the giardiniera
  1. Toss giardiniera and cornstarch in a bowl. Use a spider to dip the coated giardiniera into the beer batter. Deep fry in vegetable or corn oil at 350°F for 1 minute or until golden brown.
  2. Transfer to paper towel-lined sheet tray to drain.
